The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has declared the City of Cauayan in Isabela the first smart city in the country.

Cauayan City Local Government posted on Facebook: "Cauayan City tinaguriang First Smarter City sa Pilipinas! Alamin ang kahalagahan ng pagiging Smarter City sa video na ito. Congratulations and thank you Mayor Bernard Faustino Dy at sa buong lungsod ng Cauayan, the Ideal City of the North!Thank you DOST and ISU for the wonderful collaboration to make this possible."

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) secretary Mario Montejo has declared Cauayan in Isabela, Cagayan Valley as the first Smarter City in the region and the first among 144 cities in the country. Montejo made the pronouncement during the recent Region 2 leg of DOST’s “Science Nation: Agham na Ramdam” nationwide roadshow.
